The Woodland
Barlow Wood is a broadleaved woodland on a steep river valley slope. Woodland species indicate that parts of the area can be classed as Ancient Woodland. Public rights of way cross the wood although these paths are very steep and care needs to be taken. The main path crosses the river Goyt providing excellent views of this river. Access to the woodland is limited to these paths as the site contains sensitive plant communities.
Getting here and accessibility
Barlow wood is situated off Strines Road , about 1 km south of Marple. It is bounded by Strines road to the west and falls steeply to the river Goyt to the east. Access to the woodland is via Strines road which marks the eastern boundary. There isn’t a car park although limited parking is available on Plucksbridge Road. Take care as Strines is a busy road.
