Alexandra Park
The close proximity of a popular shopping centre, local school, library and play development centre means that local people are naturally drawn to the park as a central leisure facility.

Over the years partnerships have been built between these agencies and the Alexandra Park Community Association has played a key role in developing these links. It is this strong community involvement which sets Alexandra Park apart from many other parks. It has a place in the hearts of the local people who show an impressive amount of commitment in their determination to make this a Park for the 21st Century.

Latest News:
In March 2012 Stockport Council will make an application for funding to Sports England – Inspired Facilities to make improvements to Alexandra Park. The six proposals have been developed in discussion with park users and are supported by the Edgeley and Cheadle Heath Councillors. Full details.

History

This 3.78-hectare park is a formal Edwardian park close to the town centre of Stockport in the North West of England. Stockport Corporation purchased the park in 1908 from H. R. Sykes Esq., owner of a local bleaching works. A.H. Sykes Esq. donated a further £500.00. The park was officially opened on 15th April 1908. In 1990/91 the park was extended to include a reservoir (until then still privately owned by the bleachworks) which is now popular with anglers and wildlife.
