Reddish Vale Country Park Fishery Consultation
Reddish Vale’s reservoir fishery needs to improve: we need to improve access for all, have more educational activities, more opportunities for young people, better areas for wildlife, safety for people and wildlife, better opportunities for recreation.
Do you think it is a good idea to involve an independent angling club in the running of angling activities at
Reddish Vale Country Park
One way of achieving this is to hand the day-to-day management of the fishing to an independent angling club. If this were to happen the rights of non-anglers to enjoy the site would not be affected, and access improvements, for instance, would benefit all visitors.
We carried out a public consultation in March, asking local residents and Park users what they thought about this.
44 people think it is a good idea to involve an independent angling club in the running of angling activities at Reddish Vale Country Park; 16 said this is not a good idea, and 2 did not have strong feelings about it.
When asked about what conditions do you feel should be imposed if a club were to run the angling facilities, people said, for instance:
- The club should have an open membership for all with range of categories – junior, senior citizen, adult, pensioner, disabled, etc
- There should be appropriate rules and conditions for angling and adequate insurance
- There should be a bailiff
- The club should be a Stockport-based organisation
- The club must make sure there is liaison with Stockport Council, local interest groups, and Environment Agency
- The public must still be allowed access to the walk around the ponds
- People must not be stopped from bringing children etc to feed the ducks
- The pond must not just be for the exclusive use of the anglers
- The reservoir and its land need to remain publicly owned.
