Stockport Libraries encourage the promotion of reading within Stockport in a variety of ways:
- by providing reading groups at various libraries
- by providing packs with multiple copies of books which reading groups can use
- by holding events which reading groups can attend
- by providing supporting materials and expertise to reading groups
Currently there are around 20 adult groups meeting in Stockport Libraries, and approximately 60-70 groups held in the community.
Their interests include:
- Contemporary Fiction
- Crime
- Science Fiction
- Non-Fiction
We also have groups for teenagers and younger readers:
- Young People: The groups are aimed at 13+ year olds. The emphasis is on reading for pleasure in a relaxed environment.
- Chatterbooks: These fun reading group for 9+ year olds. There is lots of chat about all kinds of books as well as games, quizzes and refreshments. Take the opportunity to read, listen to or write a story.
