Stockport's Local Heritage Library provides a wealth of information for researchers into the history of the area, for those who have a general interest in the past and those investigating their family history.
The library collects and preserves material that relates to the history of Stockport. This includes records relating to the former Urban District Councils of Reddish and Heaton Norris which were amalgamated with Stockport County Borough in 1901 and 1911 respectively, and, also the former Urban District Councils of Bredbury & Romiley, Cheadle & Gatley, Hazel Grove & Bramhall and Marple which were amalgamated with Stockport County Borough in 1974 to form Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council.
