Stockport Art Guild Annual Exhibition

Mad About Books -   Children's Illustration Exhibtion

18th July - 10th October 2009

Permanent Collection

Phase 1 - presented 200 years of Stockport's history through paintings, prints and drawings. Charting the move from rural to industrial, this exhibition looks at Stockport's past and present whilst asking questions about its future.

Phase 2 - uncovered stories behind the largely unsung heroes who have defined the collection over the the years and documents how ordinary people did extra-ordinary things.

Phase 3 - Who Do You Think They Are? During this exciting project, documents relating to pieces within the collections were discovered and answer some of the questions surrounding how these images came to be here. On display in the exhibition for the first time were letters that, in some cases, have been written by the artist.  Some refer directly to the paintings in our care and provide valuable insight into the life and times in which they were written.
