Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council

Affordable Warmth

Affordable warmth is the solution that enables householders to heat their homes to an adequate level for comfort and health without developing debt as a result.

It is a social, economic, environment and health issue, which is relevant to, and impacts upon, many organisations. The Council has developed a strategy that takes into account and benefits from the viewpoints and perspectives of a wide range of organisation.

Why an Affordable Warmth Strategy for Stockport?

Fuel poverty is a complex problem and its solution requires a strategic approach. The strategy developed is the result of a number of consultative workshops held with a wide range of organisations and community groups with assistance from NEA, the National Energy Action charity.

The strategy sets out the aims and objectives developed by Stockport Council and partner organisations to achieve provision of affordable warmth over the forthcoming years. The document sets out a series of action plans, together with timescales and targets against which progress can be measured. In this way it is intended to tackled fuel poverty by bringing affordable warmth to the residents of Stockport. The cause and consequences of fuel poverty are such that action to bring affordable warmth will result in improvements to the health and well being, as well as the comfort of residents and will therefore contribute significantly toward other key priority areas for Stockport.
