Time To Start Composting!

24 Sep 2012

Cut-price compost bins to encourage people to start composting are available to Stockport residents.

The wet summer saw quick plant and grass growth, and all this green waste could be recycled to produce compost ideal for spring planting.

If people have sufficient garden space a compost heap is ideal but householders with a small garden or if they want to keep things looking neat and tidy, a compost bin is better. The bin will also take some kitchen waste including vegetable peelings, egg shells, tea bags and coffee grounds.

The compost bins are available for just £16 (normal price £39) plus £5.49 delivery. To order or for more details visit www.getcomposting.com or phone 0844 571 4444.

A variety of sizes and composting accessories are also available at reduced prices.

Councillor Kevin Hogg, Executive Member for the Public Realm, said: “With autumn upon us, it’s time to think about tidying the garden and preparing the soil for the spring. The environmentally-friendly approach is to compost your green garden waste. Home composting significantly reduces carbon emissions, provides a nutritious feed for plants, and is an effective and sustainable way of reducing the amount of waste sent to landfill.”

Everyone can boost the borough’s recycling by making sure they put the right items into their recycling bins. For more information visit www.stockport.gov.uk/waste
