The Stockport Unitary Development Plan (UDP) Review (adopted 31st May 2006) forms part of the current statutory development plan for the Borough.
From 1st April 2011, following adoption of the Stockport LDF Core Strategy DPD, the policies which are used to manage development in Stockport are those set out in the Core Strategy along with those policies of the UDP which are not superseded by the Core Strategy. An informal extract from the UDP Review has been produced which sets out those UDP policies that are still relevant following adoption of the Core Strategy DPD. This extract is available under 'Related Documents' to the right of this page.
The UDP Review, as legally required, is set out in two parts (much of which, however, has now been superseded by the Core Strategy).
Part One: comprises general background to the Borough; other relevant national, regional and local policies and strategies; the key directions and objectives of the plan as well as strategic Part One policies.
Part Two: contains policies and detailed proposals for the use of land including policies for development control. This part of the plan shows Part One policies in bold, upper case type and Part Two policies in bold, lower case type. Explanations for both the Part One and Part Two policies justifying their inclusion in the Plan and giving further information are also included in Part Two.

The UDP Review was adopted on 31st May 2006. The challenge seeks to quash Policy TCG4.4 Land North of Water Street of the UDP Review pursuant to Section 287 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (as amended). Satnam Investments Limited is seeking to quash policy TCG4.4 in so far as it relates to land North of Water Street, Portwood, Stockport. The Challenge was made on the 11th July 2006. The challenge does not seek to quash any other part of the UDP Review.

ERRATUM: Appendix 9 - Parking Standards
It has come to our attention that an error was contained within Appendix 9 of the Stockport UDP Review. This error was only included in the final published document and therefore played no part in either the Inspector's consideration of the plan or the Council's resolution to adopt it.
It you already hold a printed copy of the UDP Review you will shortly be sent a replacement page for that on which the error occurs.
The copy of Appendix 9 under 'Related Items' to the right of this page has been updated to show the corrected version.
Saved Policies
Under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 policies in the adopted Stockport UDP Review were saved for three years from their adoption, up until 31st May 2009. After this period policies only remain part of the statutory development plan if the Secretary of State has agreed that they can be saved further. In a letter of 13th May 2009 Government Office for the North West (GONW) confirmed that the Secretary of State has agreed the Council’s application to further save all but nine of the policies that make up the Stockport UDP Review. For more information on Saved Policies see the link below and for more information on the new planning system please see the 'Local Development Framework (LDF)' link under 'related links' to the right of this page.
