Stockport Council are intending to produce a Local Development Framework (LDF) under the provisions of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. The LDF is the title given to a portfolio of documents setting out policies, allocations and guidance for the future development of the Borough and, once adopted will replace the Stockport Unitary Development Plan.
An important early stage in the LDF process is to prepare a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) that specifies how the Council will involve the community in the preparation of the LDF as well as in the processing of planning applications.
The community were invited to contribute to the preparation of the Council’s Statement of Community Involvement in August 2005. The Council took account of all the views expressed and amended the draft Statement prior to its submission to the Secretary of State for examination by an Inspector in November 2005.
The Council received the Inspector’s report in May 2006: the Inspector has concluded that subject to a number of minor changes, the statement is sound. The Council has now agreed at its meeting on 29th June to accept his recommendations, and incorporate the resulting minor changes in the Adopted Statement of Community Involvement.
The majority of the changes recommended by the Inspector are consistent with suggestions made by the Council in response to earlier consultation. The Inspector’s recommendations are binding upon the Council.
The Inspector’s recommendations, subsequent reports to the Executive and Council and the resulting Adopted Statement of Community Involvement together with an ‘Adoption Statement’ are available under ‘Related Items’ on the right of this page.
