Stockport's Curry Chef Competition has been held since 1998. The department believes in this positive way of working with businesses to showcase the high standards of hygiene and culinary skills that can be achieved.
The competition comprises three rounds. The first round involves an inspection of the restaurant/takeaway premises. Successful premises go through to the second round where the chef has 45 minutes to prepare:
- a curry dish consisting of vegetables, meat, chicken, fish or any other combination
- a complementary side dish either vegetarian or non vegetarian
- bread or a rice dish
Judges watch the chefs prepare their dishes from start to finish assessing culinary skills and hygiene. The food is then judged for texture, aroma, appearance, originality and presentation.
The four highest scoring chefs then qualify for the final at a central venue.
