Trading Standards Scheme
It is often difficult for consumers to know whether they are dealing with reputable traders or one of the small number of rogue cowboy operators. Buy With Confidence is a voluntary registration scheme for traders that helps to address this particular problem.
The scheme provides consumers with a list of reputable businesses that they can trust and use with confidence. It supports and recognises those businesses that are committed to high standards of trading and are prepared to comply with both the letter and the spirit of the law. Businesses must demonstrate the following before being accepted onto the scheme:
- Be committed to good customer service
- Have been operating for a minimum of 6 months
- Be based within the boundaries of Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council or do the majority of your business within it
- Not cold call customers
- Comply with consumer protection legislation
- Have appropriate insurance
- Abide by the terms of membership of the scheme
Businesses meeting the above criteria who are accepted onto the scheme may display the Buy With Confidence logo on their business premises and on their documentation and advertising. Businesses will also be listed on the Buy With Confidence website where consumers can search for a trustworthy trader.
