The Ethnic Diversity Service works in partnership with schools to raise the attainment of minority ethnic pupils and those with English as an Additional Language, providing an interpreting service and promoting community cohesion.
Ethnic Diversity Service
The Service helps schools promote community cohesion by offering cultural talks, managing projects such as the school linking programme and by providing an interpreting service through the Stockport Interpreting Unit.
The Ethnic Diversity Service provides specialist English language teachers and bilingual teaching assistants who work in partnership with schools to meet the needs of all pupils from minority ethnic backgrounds.
The Ethnic Diversity Service also works to promote stronger relationships within the community. We offer training and advice on how to make education more inclusive and provide cultural talks and demonstration in schools. These talks and training sessions promote understanding and celebrate cultural diversity. The Ethnic Diversity Service also manage the school linking programme which connects schools in Stockport, giving children, young people and teachers the opportunity to learn about different areas and communities in the borough.
Stockport Interpreting Unit, which is part of the Ethnic Diversity Service, provides interpreters and interpreter training in Stockport and surrounding areas.
