Background
For a number of years, like many other councils, we experienced falling pupil numbers and were required to remove surplus places in a number of primary schools. Over the last few years however we have seen an increase in the number of births and we have already had to increase the number of places at some schools to meet need in the reception year.
We have worked closely with headteachers across Stockport to identify which schools are best placed to help us provide extra places.
The following schools are being proposed for expansion:
By September 2013
- Bradshaw Hall Primary School
- Broadstone Hall Primary School
- Cheadle Heath Primary School
- Hazel Grove Primary School
- Norris Bank Primary School
By September 2014
St Paul’s CE Primary School
Please read the consultation document for further information about the proposals.
The Need for Additional Places
Projections indicate that we will need extra places across Stockport over the next few years. We have created an additional 200 places for September 2012 but more work is required. Ideally we would like to ensure a surplus of approximately 5% spare places to allow for more parental choice.
The attached document shows the shortage of spare places across each of our planning areas
