Adult Education

Every year, the Continuing Education Service provides adult education courses for thousands of learners in a variety of locations in Stockport.

  • Adult Learners Week - NIACE
  • The Service has a strong commitment to meeting the needs of disadvantaged individuals and communities.
  • Each year thousands of people aged 16 and over pack the borough's continuing education centres, colleges and other learn-as-you-go services to take part in courses in over 300 subjects.
  • Each year they leave having improved their job prospects, boosted their confidence, learned a new skill or simply kept their grey matter ticking over.
  • A free interpreting service is available if you need help with this information. Please contact Stockport Interpreting Service, part of the Ethnic Diversity Service. See 'Related Contacts' on the right of the page.
  • So if you are looking to update and improve skills or seeking opportunities to improve your employment and career options, then check out the courses and enrolment details or call the helpline no 0800 389 0804.
  • Please see the links below for course details for Sept 2011 - July 2012.
  • The Continuing Education Virtual Learning Environment website (VLE) is a system designed to support teaching and learning in an educational setting.  The VLE works over the internet and provides a collection of tools and resources available for staff and learners alike in order to supplement traditional face to face classroom activities.  Please see Related Links.  (A user name and password for this site will be issued during the first session of your chosen course)
  • Latest News - Stockport Continuing Education Service provides a "good" standard of education and training and has "good" prospects for further improvement.  During its Inspection by Ofsted in June 2011, strengths highlighted by inspectors were the effectiveness and quality of provision, teaching, training and learning and achievements which, at many levels, are above national averages.
