Every 22 minutes a child comes into care and needs a foster family in the UK
With more foster carers urgently needed, this Foster Care Fortnight we're asking you to find the time to care, as more and more vulnerable children are coming into care and need foster homes now.
There is a shortage of more than 8,750 foster families across the UK and in our North West region there is a shortage of 1,200 foster homes. Stockport needs more people with the right skills to come forward to foster, so more children can be found the right home, first time.
Stockport Council urgently needs more foster carers for a variety of children of all ages but in particular carers for children aged 8+, sibling groups and children with disabilities
We welcome applications from people from all backgrounds, cultures and religions. Applicants must be over 21 (there is no upper limit) and can be married or living together, single, divorced, widowed, in a same sex relationship, have a disability, be working or unemployed, retired, own a home or rent, have birth children or not. Applicants must also have a spare bedroom.
Fostering is not just about looking after other people's children, it is about developing you, your skills, knowledge and understanding. It is, for some people, a career.
Thinking about fostering for Stockport? We're with you every step of the way.
