Forthcoming Training

Common Processes offers a suite of training to support practitioners in using the Common Assessment Framework and Team Around the Child process.

This training is multi agency focussed and is aimed at all practitioners working with children, young people and families, whether in statutory, community or voluntary sectors. Also available is training specifically aimed at supporting managers and supervisors.

Integrated Working: Using a C.A.F. Workshop

This is a revised half day course that provides an introduction to the use of the Common Assessment Form (C.A.F.) within Stockport. It can also be used as a refresher for workers who wish to update their skills and knowledge. The aims of the workshop are to:

  • Be familiar with the context and process involved in the Common Assessment Framework (C.A.F.)
  • Have explored the use of a C.A.F. and the skills required to operate it effectively.
  • Have had opportunities to practice using the documentation and to develop confidence.
  • Be introduced to good practice and good quality assessment inline with regional standards.

Integrated Working: The Roles and Responsibilities of the Lead Practitioner

This half day workshop is a new addition to the Common Processes training suite. It looks at the role and responsibilities of being a Lead Practitioner. Before completing this course, practitioners should have completed the Using a C.A.F. Workshop. The aims of the workshop are to:

  • Understand the roles and responsibilities of the Lead Practitioner within the context of integrated working.
  • Understand the skills required to be a Lead Practitioner
  • Be clear about what is expected of a Lead Practitioner and what happens afterwards.
  • Being aware of sources of support and supervision.

Integrated Working: Effective Team Around the Child Meetings

This is a revised one day workshop that looks at the Team Around the Child processes and paperwork. Workers who completed the initial course could attend to refresh their skills and knowledge. It forms the final module in the C.A.F. training suite. Before completing this course, practitioners should have completed the Using a C.A.F. Workshop and the Lead Practitioner Workshop. The aims of the workshop are to:

  • Identify the key features of effective meetings
  • Have applied these features to Team Around the Child meetings
  • Gain familiarity with the structure of the Team Around the Child Meetings
  • Have practised conducting a Team Around the Child meeting
  • Explored solutions for difficult situations e.g. non-engagement, entrenched cases.

Supporting the use of Common Processes: Training for Managers and Supervisors

  • This is a new one day course. It provides an opportunity for those who manage and supervise workers who are involved in completing the C.A.F. and the Team Around the Child processes to consider how these workers can be appropriately supported. Participants who are new to Stockport should have completed the Using a C.A.F. Workshop or as a minimum attended a C.A.F. briefing about Common Processes approach within the last 12 months.

The aims of the course are:

  • To provide an overview of Common Processes for managers
  • To help identify individual support needs for workers
  • To have an opportunity to share good practice and experiences
  • To provide managers with a framework to support workers effectively
  • To be able to identify their individual needs as managers
  • To produce a plan to support learning from the day
