How To Pay Your Council Tax

Stockport Council offers various methods to pay your Council Tax.

The preferred method of payment is Direct Debit.

Direct Debit has never been easier.

You can pay your Council Tax each month and let your bank do the work for you. We can now offer you a choice of three payment dates: 1st, 15th and 25th.

It's really simple to set up. Call us on 0161 217 6014 or complete and return the Direct Debit form.

Once your Direct Debit is set up there is no need to adjust/cancel your instruction. We will always inform you in advance of any change to your payments.

Pay Online

With the online payments service you can pay your council bills with any of the following types of credit/debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, Solo, Visa Electron, Delta).

24 hour Telephone Payments

Payments can now be made over the telephone by debit and credit card. This is an automated service available 24 hours a day. Please call 0161 474 4050. You will need your card and your Council Tax account number to hand.

In Person

By cash at the self-service payment machines located at the Stockport Direct Centre, Stopford House, Piccadilly, Stockport.

Cheques can be left in a secure box and should be made payable to Stockport Council and must not be postdated. Your name, address and account number should be written on the back of the cheque. Please enclose a stamped self addressed envelope if you want a receipt.

Opening hours are 8.30am–5.00pm Monday to Friday.

PayPoint

Pay your Council Tax at any PayPoint outlet. Apply for a card by calling 0161 217 6014. You can also use your Post Office card at PayPoint outlets. Payments must be for more than £2.00, and take 2 working days to reach your account.

At the Post Office

You can pay at any Post Office in the country using a Post Office Giro Payment Card. There is no charge for this service. Payments must be for more than £2.00 and take 2 working days to reach your account.

By Post

Pay by cheque through the post. Cheques should be made payable to Stockport Council and sent to: Stockport Council, Payments, PO Box 4, Stockport, SK1 3FN.

Write your name, address and account number on the back of the cheque. Cheques must not be postdated. Please enclose a stamped self addressed envelope if you want a receipt.

On a range of dates

If you would like to pay by any of the above methods annually (on the 15th April) or bi-annually (on the 15th April and 15th August), please contact the office and this can be arranged for you. If you would like to pay weekly or fortnightly, please contact the office and this can also be arranged for you.

Please allow at least five working days for payments to reach your account.
