Stockport Council offers various methods to pay your Council Tax.
The preferred method of payment is Direct Debit.
Direct Debit has never been easier
You can pay your Council Tax each month and let your bank do the work for you. We can now offer you a choice of three payment dates: 1st, 15th and 25th.
It's really simple to set up. Call us on 0161 217 6014 or complete and return the Direct Debit form (PDF 117Kb).
Once your Direct Debit is set up there is no need to adjust/cancel your instruction. We will always inform you in advance of any change to your payments.
Pay over 12 months
If you would like to pay your bill over 12 months instead of 10, please use our new Pay over 12 months online form.
Providing you do this before 1st March 2015, we can make sure this arrangement is included on your bill for the new financial year 2015-2016.
Any requests made after the annual bills have been issued will include instalments that are apportioned to equal the number of whole months left in the financial year.
You can pay your council bills online with any of the following types of credit/debit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Maestro, Solo, Visa Electron, Delta).
24 hour Telephone Payments
Payments can now be made over the telephone by debit and credit card. This is an automated service available 24 hours a day. Please call 0161 474 4050. You will need your card and your Council Tax account number to hand.
Paying online through your bank
The Council's bank details for receiving payment are:
Barclays Bank Plc, Sort Code 20-82-13, Account Number 10840181
Pay at a Post Office or a PayPoint/Payzone outlet
Take your bill with you and use the barcode on the front to make payments by cash (or debit /credit card if the outlet accepts these). You should allow up to 5 working days to reach your account.
Pay by cheque through the post. Cheques should be made payable to Stockport Council and sent to Technical & Exchequer Services, Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council, Town Hall, Stockport, SK1 3XE.
Write your name, address and account number on the back of the cheque. Cheques must not be post-dated. Please enclose a stamped self addressed envelope if you want a receipt.
