The Council is composed of 63 Councillors as follows (as of 4th May 2012);
- Liberal Democrats 28;
- Labour 21;
- Conservative 10;
- Independent Ratepayers 3;
- People Matter 1.
Councillors are normally elected for a period of four years and elections usually take place on the first Thursday in May on three out of four years.
