Trading Standards Officers enforce criminal legislation by visiting and advising traders and taking prosecutions on matters such as unsafe goods, short weight, misleading prices etc.
Advice is given by Fair Trading Officers on the Advice Line on matters relating to the quality of goods or services where consumers may have civil rights which they as individuals can pursue against traders. The Trading Standards Advice Line is staffed by fully trained advisers, and assist with approximately 10,000 enquiries each year.
