Stockport Council spend money every year on a wide range of goods, works and services - from paper clips to computers, from waste disposal to social care services.
It is the Council’s intention to maximise the opportunities for all types of business to bid for Council contracts through fair and transparent competitive quotation and tender processes.
We work closely with different business sectors such as small, medium enterprises (SMEs) and the voluntary sector to ensure that those organisations have access to information on our contracting opportunities, an understanding of our procurement processes and wherever possible we try and 'package' our contracts in such a way to ensure for example that smaller businesses are not excluded from bidding.
Stockport Council is committed to obtaining maximum benefit for every tax-payers’ pound we spend. This means using our resources in the best possible way, and delivering public services at a reasonable cost. To do this, we must make sure that our purchasing is good value for money.
Getting value for money means:
- Using resources carefully to save expense, time and effort
- Delivering high quality services or getting a good return for less or the same amount of expense, time and effort
- Weighing up the cost of goods, works or services against their quality and fit for purpose
- Value for money does not mean that we will always buy the cheapest product or service, but means that we will weigh up both quality and cost when deciding what we buy and from whom.
These web pages aim to provide information to help all businesses when quoting or tendering for Council contracts. They help explain the methods of procurement and provide guidance on some of the key factors that businesses will need to consider throughout the procurement process.
Throughout its procurement processes the Council complies with all relevant UK and European laws.
