Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council

Express Delivery Scheme

How long will it take to process my claim?

A 24 hour Express Delivery service is available to customers who can provide a fully completed claim form or report of a change in circumstances, with all the supporting information that is asked for. You can bring it into to the Stockport Direct Centre, located at Stopford House, Piccadilly, Stockport or any of the Stockport Direct Local Centres (excluding Heald Green, Cheadle or Marple).

A member of the Enquiry Counter team will look through the form and supporting information then advise you if the claim or change can be fast-tracked and if not what additional information is needed.
There are some claims that we may not be able to fast-track :-

  • Self-Employed claims.
  • Customers waiting for a decision from the Department for Work and Pensions, for example, a claim for Pension Credit, Income Support or Jobseekers Allowance.

For the claims and changes that can be fast-tracked, the form and supporting information is scanned directly into the benefits system and picked up by the Benefit Team within minutes.
You will receive the decision the next day.

The Benefits team does receive quite a substantial number of forms with missing claim information and therefore have to write to the customer to gather the missing items. This information can be brought into the Stockport Direct Centre at Stopford House, any of the Stockport Direct Local Centres or any of the Area Housing Offices where it can be scanned directly to the Benefits section.

For the opening times and location of your nearest centre please call 0161 217 6009.
