Where To See The Olympic Torch Relay In Stockport

15 Jun 2012
The timings for the Olympic Torch Relay through Stockport on Sunday 24th June have been finalised.

The Torch Relay arrives in Stockport from Manchester.

  • Around 8.19am: The first runners start on the A6 Wellington Road North at its junction with Georges Road in Heaton Norris.
  • Between 8.19am-9.13am: The torch will be carried by a succession of runners along the A6 past Stockport Town Hall, Stockport College, through Heaviley and Great Moor to the junction of New Moor Lane in Stepping Hill where, still in relay, it will turn right into New Moor Lane and along Bramhall Moor Lane.
  • Around 9.13am:  Arrives at Pepper Road in Hazel Grove.

As the Torch Relay proceeds along the A6 (along Wellington Road North, Wellington Road South and Buxton Road), motorists will be stopped and held by the Police escort until the relay has passed. Motorists will also be held behind the Torch Relay and will be unable to overtake.

There are no planned road closures on the A6 before the arrival of the Torch Relay but there may be temporary traffic control in the interests of public safety. Pepper Road will be closed to traffic between 8.30am-10.15am.

At around 9.45am, the Torch Relay will leave Stockport in a convoy through Offerton, Portwood and Lower Bredbury towards Tameside.
