Stockport Road Works Information

This web page show the latest roadworks in Stockport, however you may also be interested in these other pages publicising local traffic schemes in the borough;


30th September 2013 - 31st March 2014: Gatley Road, Cheadle Village

Highway improvement works will be carried out throughout Cheadle Village Centre.

The works have been split into a number of Phases:

  • Phase 1 – Works commencing on 30th September 2013 and last till 31st March 2014, the extent of the works are from the Junction of Gatley Road/Warren Avenue through to approximately the junction of High Street/Church Street. Works are also to progress down Wilmslow Road up to Charlotte Street.
     
  • Subsequent phases will commence on 1st April 2014 and will progress works along High Street.

The improvement works involve the upgrading of footways to conservation materials, replacement of signing (where deemed necessary), installation of new LED signs, new road markings, improvements to footway drainage, Toucan Crossing facility, improvement to the junction of High Street/Manchester Road/Stockport Road, carriageway resurfacing works, provision of dropped crossings throughout the scheme and the installation of Loading Bays.

The hours of work will be limited to:

  • Weekday working: 9:30am – 3:30pm
  • Sat/Sun: 9:00am onwards

During the works, access will be maintained to all local businesses and disruptions will be kept to a minimum. Your support and co-operation during these works will be greatly appreciated.


6th March–November: Otterspool Road, Romiley

United Utilities contractors have started works to install a new sewer outfall on Otterspool Road, Romiley, between the junctions with Vale Road and Hurstheads Lane.

These works are due to be completed by November 2014 and will require the use of temporary two-way signals for the duration of the works.


18th March–14th April: Mauldeth Road, Heaton Moor

Contractors working on behalf of National Grid Gas will be undertaking gas main replacement works on Mauldeth Road, Heaton Moor, between the junction with Whitehurst Road and the Burnage Lane roundabout, across the Manchester border.

These works require the use of two-way signals up to 26th March, with the works expected to be completed by 14th April.


19th March–October: Dialstone Lane, Offerton

Contractors working on behalf of British Telecom have started preliminary diversionary works on relocating fibre optic cables on Dialstone Lane at the junction with Dial Road ahead of the United Utilities flood alleviation scheme.

The BT works will require the use of temporary two-way signals, staffed during peak periods, and side road junction closures of Dial Road and Magda Road for approximately three weeks.

Once the BT plant has been relocated, United Utilities contractors will take possession of the site under the same temporary two-way light traffic management and side road junction closure including Katherine Road and Hollymount Drive, to start the tunnelling operations associated with the installation of the new sewers.

It is expected that this scheme will take up to six months to complete.


24th March–2nd May: Daw Bank, Central Stockport

Contractors working on behalf of Stockport Council will be undertaking masonry cleaning and repair works on Daw Bank, Central Stockport, directly underneath Wellington Road viaduct.

These works require the use of a temporary road closure from 24th March to 2nd May.

Diversions will be in place via Wood Street, Wellington Road South, Wellington Street, St. Peters Square, Mersey Square, St. Petersgate and Exchange Street.


31st March–11th April: Windlehurst Road, Marple

Contractors working on behalf of Electricity North West will be installing joint bays and cabling on Windlehurst Road, Marple; outside the substations, close to the junction with Ridge Crescent.

These works are scheduled to take place between Monday 31st March and Friday 11th April requiring the use of two-way signals, manned during peak times.


2nd April–14th May: Wensley Drive and Malton Drive, Hazel Grove

Stockport Council will be resurfacing the footways on Wensley Drive and Malton Drive. This work will be carried out by Solutions SK.

Work is scheduled to start on 2nd April and should take up to six weeks to complete.

Access to properties will be maintained where possible but may be restricted for certain periods as the work progresses.


4th April–21st April: High Street, Cheadle

United Utilities will commence works to repair a collapsed sewer on High Street, Cheadle opposite the junction with Mary Street between the junctions of Manchester Road and Wilmslow Road from Friday 4th April and over the Easter school holidays with an expected duration through to Easter Monday 21st April.

Due to the location of the sewer collapse, it will be necessary to operate traffic one-way along High Street in an eastbound direction towards Stockport. All traffic wishing to travel in a westbound direction towards Gatley Road will be diverted via Manchester Road and Kingsway (A34).

Transport for Greater Manchester has also been consulted and bus diversions will be in operation for all affected services. United Utilities have liaised with Stockport Council and agreed for the work to commence after the evening peak period on Friday 4th April.

During the course of these sewer repair works, Stockport Council will also be undertaking elements of our footway repaving scheme on High Street so that disruption is kept to a minimum.

We will make sure access for residents is maintained although all traffic entering High Street from the north side will have to turn left towards Stockport. Pedestrian access will not be affected. Vehicular access to Massie Street Car Park will be maintained from the Stockport direction via High Street, Ashfield Road and Ashfield Crescent.


7th April–19th May: Sevenoaks Avenue, Heaton Moor

Stockport Council will be resurfacing the footways on Sevenoaks Avenue from approximately Alderdale Drive to Shaw Road. This work will be carried out by Solutions SK.

Work is scheduled to start 7th April and should take up to six weeks to complete.

Access to properties will be maintained where possible but may be restricted for certain periods as the work progresses.


7th April–21st April: Torkington Road, Hazel Grove

Contractors for the new Care Home on Torkington Road, Hazel Grove, between the junctions with Avondale Avenue and Avondale Road, will be undertaking sewer connection works over the Easter holidays.

These works will require the use of two-way signals from 7th April until 21st April. The temporary lights will be manually operated between 7.00am and 9.00am and also between 4.00pm and 6.00pm.


11th April–2nd May: Hereford Road, Cheadle

Stockport Council will be resurfacing the footways on Hereford Road, Cheadle. This work will be carried out by Solutions SK.

Work is scheduled to commence 11th April and should take approximately three weeks to complete.

Access to properties will be maintained where possible but may be restricted for certain periods as the work progresses.


13th April: Gillbent Road, Cheadle Hulme

Contractors working on behalf of British Telecom will be undertaking works to replace a joint box frame and cover in the carriageway on Gillbent Road, Cheadle Hulme, between the junctions with Ashdown Close and Stanley Road.

These works require the use of two-way signals on Sunday 13th April.


13th April: Gorton Road, Reddish

Contractors working on behalf of Vodafone will be carrying out works to replace the communications pole on Gorton Road, Reddish; at the junction with Mill Lane.

These works will require the use of multi-way signals which will be in place on Sunday 13th April.


13th April: Greek Street, Edgeley

Contractors working on behalf of British Telecom will be undertaking reinstatement works on Greek Street, Edgeley; outside properties 35 to 37, close to the junction with Armoury Street.

These works will require the use of two-way signals and are scheduled to take place on Sunday 13th April.


13th April: Lisburne Lane, Offerton

Contractors working on behalf of Stockport Council will be undertaking resurfacing works on Lisburne Lane, Offerton, between the junction with Crosswaite Road and the junction with Marple Road.

These works will require the use of a temporary road closure on Sunday 13th April, between the hours of 5.00pm and 12.00am.

The following diversion routes will be in place:

  • Eastbound on Marple Road - via Marple Road, Offerton Road, Torkington Road, London Road and Dialstone Lane
  • North West bound on Marple Road - via Marple Road, Hillcrest Rd and Dialstone Lane
  • North West bound on Dialstone Ln - via Hillcrest Road and Marple Road
  • South East bound on Dialstone Ln - via London Rd, Torkington Rd, Offerton Road and Marple Road

13th April–18th April: Stockport Road East & Lower Bents Lane, Bredbury

Contractors working on behalf of Vodafone are undertaking reinstatement works on Stockport Road East & Lower Bents Lane; from the junction of Ward Street to the Woodley Telephone Exchange.

These works will require the following traffic management:-

  • Temporary multi-way signals at the junction of Stockport Road East & Lower Bents Lane on Sunday 13th April.
  • Stop & go boards at the junction of Ward Street & Lower Bents Lane; between 14th April & 18th April; 9:30am to 3:30pm.
  • Stop & go boards outside the Woodley Telephone Exchange on Stockport Road East; between 14th April & 18th April ; 9:30am to 3:30pm

14th April–24th April: Compstall Road, Marple Bridge

Contractors working on behalf of United Utilities will be undertaking ground investigation/borehole works on Compstall Road, Marple Bridge, at various points between the junctions with Ernocroft Road and Glossop Road.

These works will require the use of temporary traffic signals at each location, however, all the works will take place between 9.30am and 3.30pm only and the lights will be manually operated.


22nd April–25th April: Etchells Road, Cheadle Hulme

Contractors working on behalf of Vodafone will be replacing their equipment opposite 79 Etchells Road, Cheadle Hulme (near the bridge over the A34).

The works are scheduled to take place from 22nd April to 25th April and will require the use of Stop/Go boards between 9:30am and 3:30pm on Thursday 24th April while they replace the pole.


22nd April–17th June: Hawk Green Road, The Ridge and Wybersley Road, Marple

Contractors working on behalf of Electricity North West will be undertaking works to install a new high voltage cable connection from Hawk Green Road (from the junction with Upper Hibbert Lane/Windlehurst Road), The Ridge and then Wybersley Road, to the junction with Thornway, High Lane.

These works require the use of a road closure for through traffic on The Ridge and Wybersley Road, however, access to properties will be maintained at all times.

Diversion routes will be in place via Carr Brow, Buxton Road, Windlehurst Road and Hawk Green Road.

The works are due to start on 22nd April and are expected to last for eight weeks.
