Stockport’s Portas Town Team Up and Running

13 Sep 2012
Stockport’s Portas Pilot is gathering momentum following the first official meeting of the new Town Team. They will be responsible for shaping and running the town centre into the future.

More than 40 retailers, voluntary groups, market traders and residents attended the meeting to decide the best way forward for the town centre and the Town Team.

The Town Team will be responsible for generating new ideas and deciding how funding is spent, which will then be put into action by the selected Town Team Committee.

Chair of the Town Team and President of the National Market Traders Federation Stockport branch, John O’ Mara, said: “I was really pleased to see so many people attending the first official meeting of the Town Team. It’s clear that there is plenty of enthusiasm and passion to make things happen in the town centre.

“Obviously the Town Team is a brand new way of working for Stockport and indeed the other Portas Pilot towns across the country. This will be a challenge, but as long as we all keep the purpose in mind – that is making Stockport better, for businesses, visitors and residents – we can most certainly rise to it.

"I’m confident that the new Town Team is committed to working hard, and more importantly working together, to make the town centre the best it can be.”
