Stockport Council and the Friends of Woodbank, Vernon and Poise are inviting residents to a day of music and fun at Vernon Park on Sunday 9 September. The bandstand will come alive with music, marking the end of the London 2012 Olympic Games and a summer of sport and culture on the final day of the Paralympic Games.
The best local talent will be showcased at the event, with an eclectic musical programme including local bands and groups. This free event will entertain audiences from 1-5pm, offering everyone a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of the nationwide finale celebrations for London 2012.
The line-up will include:
- Elmfield Brass Band
- Crazy Folk
- Magic Squids
- Brinnington Arts and Music
The event at Vernon Park Bandstand will be one of hundreds of outdoor concerts taking place simultaneously in bandstands and outdoor performance spaces across the UK, making up the nationwide Bandstand Marathon – the official closing event of the London 2012 Festival.
Councillor Iain Roberts, Executive Member for Economic Development and Regeneration, said: “This is a great opportunity for local people to celebrate the national success of the Olympic Games. It’s been an inspiring summer with exciting sporting and cultural events and we want people in Stockport to get involved and have fun. Come along to Vernon Park for a fun-filled day of free music for all the family.”
The event will be held at Vernon Park Bandstand, Turncroft Lane, Offerton, Stockport, Greater Manchester, SK1 4AR
