Event To Help Parents Plan For Their Children’s Future

13 Sep 2012
Stockport Council is encouraging parents/carers/guardians to attend an information event to learn about the options available for young people when they leave school.

There are a range of options for children leaving school at 16 which include Further Education, Apprenticeships or employment opportunities.

The event is being held at Stockport Town Hall on Edward Street on Thursday 4th October, from 5.00pm to 9.00pm for parents of pupils in School Years 9, 10 and 11.

The event will give parents/carers the chance to meet colleges, training providers and support agencies including the National Apprenticeship Service, Jobcentre Plus and employees from the Council’s Services for Young People team face- to-face. They will be able to answer questions about specific courses and what young people can do after leaving school or college.

Presentations detailing the options available to young people at 16, 17 and 18 and where to go for information advice and guidance will also take place throughout the evening.

It is hoped that people will leave the event with an understanding of the opportunities available post-16 and that this will encourage more young people to progress after school or to gain either employment or further education and training.

For more information about the event, contact Stockport Council on 0161 474 2350 or email 14-19.Services@stockport.gov.uk
