Public Rights of Way (PROW)

The Rights of Way team manages approximately 200 miles of public footpaths, bridleways, Byways Open to All Traffic (BOATs), and restricted byways. These form a network of tracks and paths both in the urban and in the semi-rural areas of Stockport which provide a valuable resource for recreation and sustainable transport.

The Public Rights of Way team has a duty to protect Rights of Way in Stockport. For further information please see 'Related Items' on the right of the page - 'What are PROWs?'.

To contact the Public Rights of Way team please see 'Related Contacts' on the right of the page.

Rights Of Way Improvement Plan
The development of the rights of way network in the Stockport district in the next five to ten years will be advised by the Rights Of Way Improvement Plan (ROWIP). The rights of way network not only includes access provided by footpaths, cycle tracks, bridleways and byways, but also recognises the contribution of permissive routes such as canal towpaths and access land, parks and greenspaces.
