As part of Stockport Trading Standards Services’ commitment to reducing Alcohol related crime and incidence, the PASS 16+ proof of age scheme was set-up in 1999 to provide retailers and the licensed trade with a genuine, reliable and widespread proof of age that they could request from a young person during sales of age-restricted goods.
- Initial cards are free of charge to all young people educated or residing within the borough of Stockport on attaining the age of sixteen
- We aim to photograph ALL Year 10 children educated in Stockport at school
- Cards are then issued by the schools to the Year 11 children when the students reach the age of sixteen
- The cards carry a photograph, name, date of birth and the age the cardholder reaches the age of eighteen
- Only 16’s and over will possess a card
- In the event of any cards that are lost or destroyed, a replacement can be obtained for a small fee (£2.15 presently and £2.20 from September 2007).
- The Trading Standards Service is responsible for enforcing legislation that deals with the sale of certain age restricted goods. These include fireworks, cigarettes, alcohol, videos & solvents
- Shopkeepers and retailers should refuse sales of age restricted products to people who cannot produce a valid PASS card, or other form of photo I.D, therefore adopting a “no card, no sale” policy. The only other forms of ID that we recommend traders accept are passports and driving licences including the photo counterpart.
- Need a replacement or have any questions about the scheme? Please telephone 0161 474 4195
The 16+ card is PASS accredited which means it can be used anywhere in the country. For more information about PASS, see 'Related Links' on the right of the page.
