Belmont Bridge on the A6 in Heaton Norris, Stockport, was strengthened and rebuilt between April and November 2007.
Structural assessments of the bridge by the Council and Network Rail, revealed that parts of the bridge were substandard and in need of strengthening. Changes to UK law also meant that bridges on primary routes, like Belmont Bridge, must be able to carry weights of 44 tonnes. Work started on April 2nd and was completed by November 2007.
